Bill McClintock is forming a steering group to drive forward his estate agency register plans.
As The Negotiator exclusively revealed on January 14, McClintock, chairman of the Ombudsman for Estate Agents, proposes that agents be offered a registration certificate to operate.
McClintock says that eight or 10 people from industry will form the group, made up of a cross-section of people from professional bodies and estate agents across the country.
He explains: "We had a productive meeting [yesterday] with full support for the proposal [for an agency register] in principle. The steering group is being formed to start consideration of the detail.
"We're certainly going to be working on how the register is going to be formed, what you've got to do to get on it and what sort of arrangements it will have for Government."
Details on members of the steering group will be finalised next week and McClintock says the first meeting, scheduled for late March, will decide who will chair the group.
He adds: "Who owns the register is another issue which we'll be debating, but we really want to make it as inclusive as possible. It's got to be wholly inclusive."
NOTE: Bushells fully supports the mandatory registration of Estate Agents and Letting Agents.
