Bushells is pleased to report that initial enquiries from the website in January have increased by over 50% when compared to the daily average over the last quarter of 2008.
There is no doubt that many people have been waiting until the New Year after the barrage of negative press and the common belief that there was little point doing anything before Christmas. Now that buyers and tenants seem to have moved out from their state of inertia, it seems that low interest rates may have provided the temptation to consider a move.
Lets be honest, if you are buying a home and plan to stay in it for more that a couple of years there probably has not been a better time to buy for many years. The danger is waiting until the market reaches its nadir, at which point prices will start to rise and buying will become competitive again. The last recovery showed that as soon as demand returns, the rate of increase accelerates and with transactions taking an average of 8 weeks, vendors often look to find higher offers.
Rental prices dropped at the end of last year in no small part due to the number of unsold properties where owners let instead. Rental prices are far more volatile than sales prices and tenants seem keen to bag a bargain before its too late.
Nevertheless, early signs are encouraging. In fact, Bushells is now searching for a number of new staff details of which are listed on their website.
