I am a tenant and the agent served a section 21 notice the day after I moved in – is this normal?

Historically, many agents used to serve notice that the Landlord required possession at the end of a fixed term as soon as possession was granted (some at the time keys were handed over) mainly to avoid them forgetting to do so at a later date! Under 2004 Housing Act, this practise invalidates any such notice. Notice can be served at any time after your deposit has been registered in an approved Tenancy Deposit Scheme provided it is served not less than 2 months before the date upon which possession is required. Possession can be sought at the end of the fixed term or in accordance with any break clause. If notice is served before the deposit is registered, it is invalid.
